"" Essentially Lavender Glossary of Beneficial Ingredients

Algae Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice : a combination of selected marine algae and aloe vera gel that works synergistically to provide a biomolecular hygroscopic moisture barrier to retard transepidermal moisture loss and protect skin from environmental stress.

Copper Gluconate : in enzyme systems, copper detoxifies free radicals. Gluconate acts as a vehicle for copper, promoting delivery to cutaneous tissue. In addition to benefitting the scalp, copper gluconate provides the spring-green color of Essentially Lavender shampoo.

Evening Primrose Oil : a natural oil that enhances the moisture retention ability of the skin, thus keeping it moist and supple. With a standardized 8.5% gamma-linolenic acid, this ingredient is considered vitamin F.

Guar Hydoxypropyltrimonium Chloride : a substantive polymeric conditioner providing excellent detangling benefits during wet and dry combing. Does not build up on hair, even with daily use.

Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein / Wheat Starch : contains wheat oligosaccharides, provides moisture-balancing and film-forming properties, controls body, reduces hair brittleness in low humidity, and reduces hair limpness in high humidity.

Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol : a heat-activated wheat protein / silicone copolymer that polymerizes upon drying, crosslinks to provide thermal protection from styling damage, and prevents cuticle cracking. Film-forming properties enhance moisturization, smooth the hair, and add gloss.

Lactose : see Microcrystalline Cellulose and Lactose

Lavandula Intermedia Leaf / Flower / Stem Extract : the aromatic water derived from the steam distillation of fresh-cut, certified organic lavender leaves, blossoms and stems.

Lavender Essential Oil Blend : a proprietary blend of the fragrant essential oils from three different lavender species--lavandin, lavender, and lavender spike--all known for their healing and antiseptic properties. Used aromatherapeutically, lavender soothes and nourishes the spirit, enhances the intuitive process, gently clarifies the mind, and combats the blues. Used topically, lavender also soothes dry skin, quiets over-active sebaceous glands, and fights microbial activity.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil : a unique, remarkably stable liquid triglyceride, extracted from the seeds of Limnanthes Alba, that is highly resistant to oxidation in body lotions. Prevents transepidermal water loss, and provides natural luster and emolliency to skin.

Methyl Gluceth 20 : a humectant derived from corn, used to prevent defatting of the skin and to improve the afterfeel of skin products.

Microcrystalline Cellulose and Lactose : the natural materials that make up the exfoliating bead that holds the vitamin E in Essentially Lavender exfoliating cleanser.

Olive Leaf Extract : bioflavonoids and polyphenolics, abundant in olive leaves, act as free-radical scavengers, anti-oxidants, and anti-bacterial agents. Works synergistically with other ingredients to help soothe and heal the scalp.

Olive Oil PEG-7 Esters : a completely water-soluble oil that solubilizes lavender oil and imparts the beneficial properties of the olive oil.

Panthenol : converts to pantothenic acid--provitamin B5--a natural constituent of healthy hair. Panthenol ensures long-lasting moisturization and prevention of brittle split-ends. Dl panthenol has the ability to penetrate deep into the cortex of the hair, where it acts to strengthen, moisturize, and help prevent damage to the hair. It will deposit more on damaged hair, providing nourishment where it is needed most. Repeated use of Dl panthenol has been shown to thicken the hair shaft by 10%. By smoothing the cuticle, panthenol also decreases tangling and imparts sheen to the hair.

Phytantriol : works synergistically with panthenol to enable twice as much panthenol to be deposited in hair.

Polyglyceryl-3 Caprate : a PEG-free refatting agent that provides a soft, pleasant afterfeel on skin.

PPG-12 / SMDI : also known as polyoprepolymer-2, this non-comedogenic composition of oligomers forms a long-lasting liquid reservoir within the stratum corneum for release of various agents on and into the skin.

Provitamin B5 : dex panthenol is a deep-penetrating moisturizer with unique soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. Stimulates cellular proliferation, and promotes normal keratinization.

Quaternium-79 Hydrolyzed Silk : the major emollients found in skin, chemically grafted to a silk protein. This unique compound replaces natural oils lost to frequent shampoo use and leaves a silky, non-oily feel on skin.

Quaternium-91, Cetrimonium Methosulfate : a quaternary compound that prevents combing damage to the cuticle, offers exceptional softening properties, and provides superior delivery of lipophilic actives, such vitamin E and olive leaf extract.

Quillaja Saponaria Extract : provides foaming and anti-dandruff properties to shampoos. Also relieves itching and psoriasis scales.

Silk Amino Acids : highly substantive acids that, due to their low molecular weight, penetrate deep into the hair shaft to provide powerful moisturization and a lustrous silky feel to hair.

Squalane : also known as phytosqualane, is derived naturally from the unsaponifiable fraction of olive oil. Also found in human sebum, squalane increases skin respiration, prevents water loss, acts as emollient and lubricant, helps to restore lost oils, and imparts suppleness to skin without a greasy feel.

Tamarindus Indica Seed Extract : contains an aqueous extract of tamarind seeds, consisting mainly of polysaccharides in their original natural composition. Activates the natural protective mechanisms of the skin, improves elasticity, makes the skin surfaces soft and supple, promotes firmer, smoother skin, and protects against premature aging.

Vitamin A : retinyl palmitate is involved not only in mucopolysaccharide and collagen synthesis but also in the synthesis of basal cells, resulting in adequate keratinization of the epithelial tissue. Helps to soften, elasticize, and revitalize skin.

Vitamin C : a powerful anti-oxidant that reduces free-radical formation on the skin and aids the process of collagen synthesis, thereby reducing age spots and uneven skin coloration.

Vitamin D3 : replenishes dry, photo-damaged skin, helps reduce scaliness, and provides moisturization.

Vitamin E Acetate : moisturizes skin from within, improves skin smoothness, slows the conversion of soluble collagen into insoluble collagen, and blocks lipid peroxidation, reducing cell membrane damage.

Yucca Schidigera Extract : provides foaming properties to shampoos, and imparts shine in hair.
